綿からうまれる、手づくりの紙 ― ハンドメイドコットンペーパー 日本で初めて、ハンドメイドコットンペーパーを専門につくっているメーカーです。 「ハンドメイドコットンペーパー」という、少し耳慣れない名前の紙。 楮や三椏といった植物の繊維からつくられる和紙とは違い、 この紙はその名の通り、100%の綿だけからつくられています。 紙を漉くとき、水を張った船に浮かぶ紙は、まるで霞のように儚く美しい表情を見せてくれます。 漉きあがったばかりの姿は、しんしんと降り積もった雪にもよく似ています。 そんな風情から、ブランドには「HAZE」という名前をつけました。 一枚の紙ができあがるまでの工程そのものが、ひとつのアートなのだと私たちは思っています。 そこに作家の手が加わることで、紙はさらに豊かな表情へと育っていきます。 ふちがひらひらと揺れる、手漉きならではの縁は「紙の耳」と呼ばれ、昔から愛されてきました。 HAZE COTTON PAPERでは、この縁をあえてゆたかに残し、「フリンジ」と名付けています。 繊細でありながらも存在感のあるフリンジは、紙そのものを装飾のように楽しんでいただけるはずです。 滲みにくいサイジングを施しているので、水彩やカリグラフィーにもぴったりです。 活版印刷との相性もよく、平らな紙にやさしい陰影が生まれることで、立体感のある上品な仕上がりになります。 海外では、ウェディングステーショナリーとして選ばれている様子をSNSで見かけることも。 紙をつくる工程は、いたってシンプルです。 昔ながらの手仕事を、今も大切に続けています。 手間も時間もかかり、たくさんはつくれませんが、 そのぶん生まれる温かみは、何にも代えがたい魅力だと感じています。 ペーパーレスの時代だからこそ、紙のもつ価値を見つめ直したい。 それも、昔ながらのやり方で。 私たちのつくるコットンペーパーが、紙の新しい価値をそっと育てていけたらと願っています。 〈活版印刷について〉 活版印刷（レタープレス）は長い間、16世紀に開発された印刷方法です。 にじみやかすれ、印圧による紙の凹みなど特徴のある印刷をどこかで目にした方もいらっしゃるかもしれません。 昔は本一冊の全てが活字で組まれ、活版印刷機で印刷されていました。 味のある印刷の雰囲気はいまだに支持され名刺やポストカードなどに使われています。 Handmade Cotton Paper, Born from Cotton We are Japan's first manufacturer dedicated exclusively to handmade cotton paper. "Handmade cotton paper" may be an unfamiliar term to many people. Unlike traditional Japanese washi, which is made from plant fibers such as kozo (paper mulberry) or mitsumata, our paper is crafted entirely from 100% cotton. When the paper is first formed, it floats gently on the water like a soft veil of mist. Freshly made sheets resemble newly fallen snow—quiet, delicate, and beautifully pure. Inspired by these fleeting moments, we named our brand 『HAZE』. To us, the entire papermaking process is an art form in itself. Once a sheet leaves our hands and reaches an artist or maker, it continues to evolve, becoming something even more expressive through their creativity. One of the defining features of handmade paper is its naturally feathered edge, traditionally known as the "deckle edge." At HAZE COTTON PAPER, we intentionally preserve this distinctive edge and call it the 『Fringe』. Delicate yet expressive, the Fringe becomes part of the design itself, giving every sheet its own unique character. Our paper is internally sized to resist feathering and bleeding, making it ideal for watercolor, calligraphy, and fountain pen inks. It also pairs beautifully with letterpress printing. The soft impression left by the press creates subtle shadows and depth, resulting in an elegant tactile finish. Around the world, handmade cotton paper has become especially popular for wedding stationery, and we are always delighted to see our papers used in beautiful celebrations. Our papermaking process is remarkably simple. We continue to use traditional handcrafting techniques, carefully making each sheet one at a time. Because every piece is made by hand, production is slow and limited. Yet we believe the warmth, texture, and individuality that emerge from this process are impossible to replicate. In today's increasingly paperless world, we hope to rediscover the value of paper—not through new technologies, but by preserving time-honored craftsmanship. You may recognize its distinctive characteristics: the rich impression pressed into the paper, subtle variations in ink coverage, and the beautifully tactile finish that modern printing methods cannot easily reproduce. For centuries, entire books were typeset by hand using movable type and printed on letterpress machines. Although digital printing has become the standard today, letterpress continues to be cherished for its timeless beauty and craftsmanship. It remains a popular choice for business cards, wedding invitations, postcards, and fine stationery, where the impression in the paper becomes an essential part of the design.
